Split Power India About Us

Split Power is an alternative to explosives and other dangerous materials, which applies to granite and marble quarrying, concrete cutting, concrete demolition, rock breaking, mining and so on. Split power material is mixed with water and poured into the holes, it expands with a force over 200Mpa overcoming the tensile strength of any rock or concrete.

Working:

Split Power is a powdery material that expands considerably when mixed with water. This expansion, when occurring under confinement, generates significant expansive pressures. These pressures are sufficient to break up rock and concrete when the Split Power is confined in a borehole or a series of boreholes

The boreholes must be drilled to contain the Split Power. Split Power must be mixed with a measured quantity of water and poured into the boreholes. It will then begin to hydrate, generating heat and crystallizing while hardening and expanding. If hydration takes place under confinement, significant expansive pressure will result. The pressures can be of sufficient magnitude that, after a period of time, they will fracture the confining material. A significant expansive pressure may be generated as quickly as within 30 minutes or as long as within 24 hr.

Mechanism:

The mechanism by which split power works is shown in Fig. Cracks initiate from an inner surface of the hole where split power material is poured, being caused by tensile stress at a right angle with the compressive stress which occurs by the expansive stress of split power. The expansive stress of Split power continues even after the appearance of cracks, the cracks propagate and also new cracks initiate during the process. Usually, for a single hole, 2-4 cracks initiate and propagate. When a free surface exists, the crack, as shown in Fig. 2, is pushed apart mainly by the shear stress, and a secondary crack also arises from the bottom of the hole running toward the free surface.

Multiple holes are drilled adjacent to each other into the surface that is to be splited and split power is poured in those holes, when expands, the cracks from the hole propagate to connect with the neighboring holes

Establishment of free surface:

Incase of trenching, shafting or tunneling, if all holes are drilled vertically and filled with split power, the crack width will not increase but horizontal cracks starts initiating. Therefore, in order to obtain two free surfaces, inclined holes or pre-splitting must be required.
